One of our most successful recent initiatives has been to present a fundraising concert for local charities in Richmond Hill and Thornhill on Good Friday in alternate years. For these ecumenical concerts, Cantabile Chorale is joined by choristers from local churches to create a choir of around 80 voices. This series commenced in 2002 with Once Upon a Tree by Pepper Choplin, continuing in 2004 with Joseph Martin's A Time for Alleluia, followed in 2006 by another Joseph Martin work, The Rose of Calvary.
Since these contemporary Lenten cantatas proved so popular, in 2008 we reprised Once Upon a Tree, and this year will see the return of The Rose of Calvary. We've raised an average of $2500 at these special performances, and look forward to another great success this year.
